I make jewelry, have since 1985 or so. But I also collect stuff. Computer parts off the curb, fabric from rummage sales, old board games and books. Beach glass from Lake Ontario. Bottle caps, gelato spoons, scraps of paper, embroidery hoops...the list is endless. As is the patience of my boyfriend. I do try to reward him by occasionally making something with the materials from my scavenger hunts. All of this makes me feel happy and silly, and satisfies that deep need in my soul to clean up the earth, and not waste anything. It’s kind of a perfect antidote for the perfectionist in me who sits at the jewelry bench, meticulously crafting silver and bezel-setting stones.
